Our First Month With Makayla

What more can we say? We're so in love with Makayla and a MONTH has already gone by! The picture here is of Week 1 at home. Her eyes say it all,"Who are these people?" Makayla has had so many visitors from family to friends, she finally has a vision of who has been waiting for her. Makayla has also been actively TRAVELING across town! Some people may think we're crazy driving our little one around at such an early age, but she has no complaint and has been a good sport about it. One place that she is becoming very familiar with is her mommy's favorite spot, TARGET. Daddy's not a big fan of Target, but he's happy that a new designated shopping buddy for mommy is in the works :)

This picture was tough for daddy to swallow because it was one photo he did not shoot; he had gone back to work :( He has been back to work for the past 3 weeks and it is still NOT easy for him to leave his family behind. We are grateful Grandma Sandi took some time off from work during this tough transition. Grandma was with mommy when Makayla had her first 'tummy time' in this photo. Although her head is resting on the boppy (Samoan neck roll), she can already lift it up on her own and tries to grab things around her! We heard that not many babies can do these things at this age, but apparently Makayla can. She is such a strong and tough little baby. We can also sense that she is because we do NOT mess with her during chow time! She will throw 'boxing combinations' like Manny Pacquiao to your FACE! Daddy had to learn that the hard way! Feedings are 'clock work' happening every 3 hours with TEAM MASE set for each round.

Our next appointment for Makayla is in May. Until then, she has been good 'health wise' according to her past doctor visits. Makayla is constantly changing as the days pass, our only hope is that the days don't go by TOO fast. We love it when she 'smiles' but we are thrown off about it because mommy read that at this age, smiles mean "poo poo" time! Lol! We forget if Makayla had to poop during this photo in Week 3, but we'll take this as a 'happy' smile and will be using it for her birth announcement. Mommy reads to Makayla during the daytime and daddy sings to her to sleep at night. We both help with baths, feedings and diaper duties. This has been our routine and Makayla has been cooperative for the most part. We'll see how long this routine lasts because of course, it's known they are meant to break.

Alright guys, thanks for checking in with us! Although it has been a lot of work raising Makayla, we wouldn't trade it in for anything in the world! We're in love all over again. More updates coming to you all soon!

Our Lucky Charm

After 12 hours of labor, our pride and joy has finally arrived! Makayla Ray Mase was born on St. Patty's Day, March 17th, 2010 @ 6:40 p.m. She weighed in at 6 lbs., 14 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. The picture taken by Uncle Rey says it all; she looks like her DADDY :)

Cortney did great during the "labor and delivery" with Grandma Sandi, Grandpa Ralph and daddy in the room for support. Makayla "rocketed" into our lives and we appreciate all of our family and friends for visting us at the hospital. Love you all and our latest addition :)

It's almost time! (from a Daddy's Point of View)

No matter what goes on during this pregnancy, you can count on one thing, TIME does not wait for anyone! Good thing for me, Cortney constantly keeps me on edge to make sure we're ready for this "love bug" to arrive. This doesn't mean I'm not involved or attentive to the "mother" of my child, I'm saying that as far as "communication" goes, we are both MENTALLY prepared. As for the PHYSICAL part...good luck Cort! Haha! Just kidding! I know you'll be fine hon.

I swear it was just yesterday we were in Carlsbad for vacation, experiencing the early stages of pregnancy such as the "morning sickness" (in our case, ALL times of the day), early cravings (KFC mashed potatoes) or playing the guessing game (Trey or Makayla?). Now, we're touching up the baby's room (I no longer have a closet), are enrolled in BIRTHING classes (No Lafo, you can't breastfeed! jk) and are less than 2 months away from being called "PARENTS". Can you believe that?!

Our first birthing class starts in a few hours, but I have so much more to say!!! There goes time flying by! Before I go, I want to end this blog by thanking Cortney. "Babe, I can't wait for the day when we get to see our daughter and I appreciate you holding her carefully in that stomach of yours. In due time, Makayla will be here to see who has been talking/teaching all day long. I am honored, proud and can't wait to hear our daughter call you Mama. Love you."

Sorry to get all mushy folks, but thanks for checking in and visiting! You'll be hearing from one of us soon.

Much love,
Makayla's Dad
